The general public's indifference to hockey serves bettors well as oddsmakers are less diligent when coming up with hockey wagers compared to football, basketball and baseball.

TYPES OF HOCKEY WAGERS

Hockey is an exciting game to watch and even more exciting to wager on. Here are the different types of hockey wagers to whet your hockey betting appetite.

Puck Line Wagers

Puck Line Wagers are simply wagers on a match based on the puck line (point spread), just like in football or basketball (in the US Puck Lines are similar to baseball's run lines - the spread is always 1.5). The team wagered on must win by the puck line.

For example, the posted line on a hockey game reads:

New Jersey Devils -1.5 (+130) at
Dallas Stars +1.5 (-150)

If you choose to wager on the Devils, and they won by 2 goals or more, your $100.00 wager will win $130.00.

If you choose to wager on the Stars, and they win the game, or lose by only one goal, your $150.00 wager will win $100.00

Moneyline Wagers

Moneyline Wagers are wagers on a match based on a given price rather than a puck line. The team wagered on simply has to win the game.

For example, the posted moneyline on a hockey game reads:

Chicago Blackhawks -155 at
LA Kings +135

If you wager $155 on the Devils and they win, you win $100.

If you wager $100 on the Stars and they win, then you win $135.00

Total (Over / Under) Wagers

On Total or over/under wager, the total goals of the game by both teams, overtime included, must fall over or under the side selected.

For example, the posted total on a hockey game is:

4.5
Under -125
Over +105

If you wager on "Over", and the total goals of both teams combined are more than (over) 4.5 , then your $100.00 wager will win $105.00

If you wager on "Under", and the total goals of both teams combined are less than (under) 4.5, then your $125.00 wager will win $100.00

There's also an over / under wager for the total goals scored in all the games on a particular day. This particular totals wager is called the "Grand Salami."

Team and Player Props

Props (short for propisitions) wagers involve betting on anything that doesn't have to do with the final outcome of a hockey game. Prop wagers include betting on individual or head-to-head player performance, period scores, team to score first, etc.

Prop wagers also include future wagers, like wich team will win the Stanley Cup this year. Prop wagers are also available for playoff matchups and Division and Conference winners.
